Industry-sponsored research

An industry-sponsored research (ISR) is a research study that is initiated, managed and/or financed by commercial companies, commonly manufacturers of food products, drugs or medical devices. (6)

The subsequent case illustrates how the obligations and interests of individual researchers, research institutions and research sponsors may all come into conflict in the context of an industry-sponsored research.

It reiterates the importance of protecting human research subjects in the face of severe conflicts of interests.
