5. Disclose and share selectively

Disclosure within the research team

Access to data and samples, especially those containing personal identifiers, should be limited to selected research team members on a need-to-know basis only. For example:

  • Personal identifiers of subjects are usually separated and kept on-site before the rest of the data is transmitted to a research collaborator or sponsor for analysis.
  • Where it is possible to analyse biological specimens locally, specimens should not be sent across institutions or borders.
