- World Medical Association (WMA) Declaration of Taipei on ethical considerations regarding health databases and biobanks (2017) – an international guideline that stipulates the ethical and governance requirements for storing health information in databases and biobanks.
- Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010 – Malaysian law that outlines seven principles of personal data protection: 1. Consent; 2. Notice and Choice; 3. Disclosure; 4. Security; 5. Retention; 6. Data Integrity, and 7. Access. The PDPA is enforced by the Office of the Commissioner.
- Malaysian Guideline on the use of Human Biological Samples for Research (2015) – states the requirements for obtaining consent, maintaining confidentiality and getting ethics approval when using stored or prospectively-collected human biological samples in research in Malaysia.
- Malaysian Guidelines for Stem Cell Research and Therapy (2009) – provides guidance on how stem cells should be acquired, used and processed for research in Malaysia. Also provides a list of stem cell therapies that are currently considered experimental in Malaysia, as well as those currently prohibited due to both scientific and religious reasons. (pg. 29 – 51)
