In research that involves components of deception, subjects should be fully debriefed whenever possible, unless doing so may cause them undue harm or distress.
‘Unblinding’ of subjects in clinical trials may not be possible until data analyses have been fully completed, which may take a long time in a large multi-centre trial. Subjects should be informed whether they will be able to find out which intervention arm they belonged to, if so, when and how this information can be made available to them. (2)
